This is my recipe for my herbal tea shampoo. I used Nettle and Burdock to help with hair growth. Check out my blog for some other herbs that are beneficial to the hair and scalp. www.loveyourlocs.com I also use the Lavender Castile Soap because I love the scent of lavender. You can use the unscented baby soap and add your own fragrance using essential oils (like in the conditioner recipe). I love this shampoo because it leaves my locs feeling really soft!

where do you buy the shampoo? I’ve never seen that before
It is Dr. Bonners Liquid Castile Soap. I used to get it from a health food store, but they just started selling it at Target. I used the Lavender kind for this video.
do you have to wait for the mixture to cool before adding the soap, oil, and glycerin? also, how much of the almond oil and glycerin did you add? also, can i substitute a different oil if i wanted? thanks in advance!
oh! one last question. do you still water this mixture down when you shampoo or do you put it on your hair straight?
I do wait for the tea to cool a little before adding anything else. I use 1 tablespoon each of oil and glycerine. I just used the almond oil because it is light, but I am sure that other oils will work fine. I use this straight on my hair but I don’t use it every day.
I love your videos by the way!
What is the vegetable glycerine for?
conditioning and shine
Awesome.
Thank you!!
I never tried to make a shampoo, but I love that you made one using nettle and burdock root, I love those 2 herbs! Thanks for sharing!
I made this and I love it! One thing I did was put it in the fridge. Is that necessary?
I don’t keep mine in the fridge and I haven’t had it go bad on me. But I do think that the Castile Soap will go bad after several months.
where did you get the nettle and burdock
at a local health food store
Beyond the excellent recipe for natural shampOo, may I ask the title of the song in the background? I would love it as a ring-tone.
My DH actually composed this song for me.
Thank you for this recipe. Did you strain the tea and if yes how? Also, on your website you talked about coloring your hair, how did you color and what product did you use. I would like to use a rinse on my hair but want natural product. I also loved watching you on the Tara show a while ago.
Will be waiting for your reply. Thanks

@penn2pal I used tea bags so I did not need to strain it.
As far as coloring, I used Herbal Essences hair color. I haven’t done it in a while but it worked fine for me.
Omg can you please make more videos??? I really wanna learn more from you : /
corect me if am wrong but I thought the nutritional value of the herbs worked when ingested and it works through the blood – how doe sit necessarily works on the hair when it is basically water and hair is dead material
@Wlk4acure The herbs are not for the hair, they are absorbed through the skin. They are mainly for the scalp. But you are welcomed to drink it if you like. : )
How do you dry your locs.
@loltankbo I live in a pretty mild climate so I just air dry them. I do have a bonnet dryer that I can sit under but I have only used it once to dry them. If you use a dryer, try not to dry them to the “crispy” dry stage.
I researched a lot of herbs, burdock, calendula catnip chamomile horsetail lavender marigold nettle parsley plantain pepermint red clover rosemary sage saw palmetto thyme witch hazel yarrow yucca, can i get these in tea bags like the nettle and burdock.
great post I came across on msn while doing research on google for cats.
